Ambassador of Denmark to Uganda visits Paralegal Advisory Services in Busia
On 7th August 2016, the Ambassador of Denmark to Uganda and DGF’s Board Member HE. Mogens Pedersen visited the paralegal Advisory Services (PAS) in Busia district to get an understanding of their operations. The Democratic Governance Facility (DGF) funds PAS to implement a Programme to enhance access to Justice through reducing congestion in police cells and prisons, overstay on remand especially for non-capital cases, delays in administering justice. PAS’ interventions contribute to improving service delivery and making the justice system more responsive. In addition to civil matters in areas where there are no other legal aid service providers.
A visit was made to a school in Busiime county where the Paralegal community volunteers were sensitizing the students on human rights. The team was well co-ordinated and included a police officer who gave an insight on the kind of crime that they deal with related to students and young people. The visit was informative and well received by the community.
